Terms of service

These terms apply to every order you place with The Chapter Box through thechapterbox.com. Please read them before you order. They don't affect your legal rights as a consumer.

1. Who we are

The Chapter Box, Langford Court, Ongar, Essex, CM15 0LB, United Kingdom. Email: Hello@thechapterbox.com.

2. What we sell

  • Upcycled books. These are unread books in new condition, rescued mainly from UK charity shops and checked by hand.
  • One copy only. Most titles are single copies. When a book sells, it's gone.
  • Photos are for guidance. Where we use a publisher's cover image, your copy may have a different cover design or edition details. The ISBN on the book's page is the edition you'll receive.

3. Prices

  • All prices are in pounds sterling (GBP) and are the total price you pay for the item. Delivery is shown separately at checkout.
  • Where we show a crossed-out price or "Save %", this compares our price with the book's recommended retail price (RRP) when new from the publisher.
  • If we make an obvious pricing mistake, we'll contact you before your order is dispatched. You can then choose to buy at the correct price or cancel for a full refund.

4. Placing an order

  • When you place an order, you'll receive an email confirming we've received it. This isn't yet an acceptance of your order.
  • Our contract with you starts when we email to confirm your order has been dispatched.
  • If we can't supply a book, for example because the single copy has already sold or we find a flaw we can't describe fairly, we'll let you know and refund you in full for that item.

5. Payment

Payment is taken when you place your order, using the payment methods shown at checkout. Payments are processed securely by our payment providers; we never see or store your full card details.

6. Delivery

  • We currently deliver to UK addresses only.
  • Orders are sent Royal Mail Tracked 48. Delivery costs £2.95 (£5.00 for orders over 2kg), or is free on orders of £25 or more.
  • We aim to dispatch within 2 working days. Delivery times are estimates and aren't guaranteed.
  • The book becomes your responsibility once it's delivered to the address you gave us.
  • If your order hasn't arrived within 7 working days, or arrives damaged, please email us.

7. Cancelling and returns

You can cancel within 14 days of receiving your order. If your book is faulty, damaged or not as described, you have further rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Full details, including who pays return postage, are in our refund policy.

8. Other websites

Our site links to other businesses, such as Roast Edit for coffee. Anything you buy from them is sold by them, on their own terms. We aren't responsible for their products, delivery or returns.

9. Book subscriptions

Our book subscriptions aren't available yet. They will have their own terms, which we'll publish before they launch. If you sign up to hear about them, we'll only use your email to tell you about The Chapter Box, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

10. Our responsibility to you

  • If we don't keep to these terms, we're responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of that, up to the price you paid for the item.
  • We aren't responsible for loss that wasn't foreseeable, or for business losses.
  • Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility where it would be unlawful to do so, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for your legal rights as a consumer.

11. Your information

We use your personal information only as set out in our privacy policy.

12. Our content

The text, design and logo on this website belong to The Chapter Box. Book cover images and titles belong to their publishers and authors, and are shown only to identify the books we sell.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The terms that apply to your order are the ones shown on our website when you placed it.

14. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your local courts. If you have a problem, please email us first and we'll do our best to put it right.
